Family Seminar

At Shirley Boys’ High School (SBHS), we want to support our parent and whanau community and provide useful, informative opportunities for you to learn and network with other parents. These presentations will take place once a term. They will feature engaging experts who have a worthwhile message for you as parents.

Our first seminar is scheduled for Wednesday 9 September at 7.00pm in the SBHS hall. It will be presented by Andrea Dahl from the ‘Brainwave Trust’. Andrea has been a police officer for 17 years and has experience in many areas including family violence, iwi liaison, front line duties, staff training and delivering community presentations. She currently supervises police staff teaching in schools and works with youth offenders and their families. Andrea is a mother, grandmother, and a keen sportswoman with a passion for waka ama and crossfit.

Topics that will be covered in the first seminar:

  • Adolescence as a time of transition from child to adult.
  • Brain development.
  • The physical changes including sleep pattern changes.
  • The social and emotional changes
  • Risk taking behaviours
  • The role of parents and adults

Shirley Boys’ High School would like to invite all parents to take part in this wonderful opportunity to further assist in their children.
