Design and Visual Communication (Dvx - half year)

HOD Phil Dixon —

The following subject is available for students to study in 2019.

Course Description: As well as teaching students to express themselves through freehand sketching and rendering techniques, this course aims to introduce students to basic draughting techniques and the design process used to solve everyday and mathematical problems. Students also gain understanding of accuracy and neatness, work from a design brief and present solutions incorporating their own ideas.

A major part of the course is problem solving using design briefs and methods used in presentation drawing, including use of computers as a design tool.

Graphics is a subject that teaches students logical, accurate and tidy work habits. By the end of the course students should be able to:

  • Express themselves graphically by means of freehand sketching and rendering techniques.
  • Understand the meaning of accuracy and neatness.
  • Have an understanding of the design process used to solve problems in everyday situations.
  • Solve mathematical problems graphically.
  • Work from a design brief and present solutions incorporating their own ideas.
