Sport Registration and Fees
The Sport Levy is an annual levy paid by each and every student involved in sport and physical activity at Shirley Boys’ High School. The levy is determined by the category (Gold/Silver/Bronze) of the highest-ranking activity undertaken by each student. The Shirley Boys’ High School Board of Trustees has set the Sports and Physical Activity levy at:
$30.00 for Gold Sports: Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Rugby, Volleyball and Rowing.
$15.00 for Silver Sports: Badminton, Canoe Polo, Fencing, Futsal, Golf, Indoor Cricket, Softball, Squash, Table Tennis, Target Shooting, Tennis, Touch Rugby, Water Polo, Weights Club.
No charge for Bronze Sports: Athletics, Cross Country, Ice Hockey, Karate-do, Road Racing, Snow Sports, Sport Climbing, Surfing, Trap Shooting.
The proceeds from the collection of these levies are administered by the Shirley Boys’ High School Spartan Sports Committee to ensure that sport and physical activity continue to thrive and grow at Shirley Boys. They are used for things such as buying new sports equipment and gear and for the up-keep of our school sports fields and facilities. Capital items/expenses, over and above what the school budget and registration fees supply, is another use of this money to provide the best possible sporting experience for boys.
Sports Fees are incurred for each sport and physical activity at Shirley Boys’ High School. These are determined largely by the costs associated with running the particular activity. It should be noted that more often than not, the fees do not reflect the total costs involved – they are a contribution to meeting the expenses. Sports and physical activities that are more costly to run therefore have a higher registration fee.
The proceeds from the collection of these fees are administered by the committees and/or persons that administer each sports code/activity to ensure that the particular sport and physical activity continues to thrive and grow at Shirley Boys’ High School.
The total fee payable by each student is a combination of one Registration Levy and one or more Sport Fees. It should be noted that Shirley Boys High School operates a ‘No Pay – No Play’ policy designed to ensure that the benefactors (the students) contribute appropriately to the costs associated with their chosen activity(s). Students are expected to have either completed the payment of Sport Registration Levy and Sport Fee(s), in full, prior to playing or to have arranged a suitable payment scheme approved by the particular code and the Student Office.
