At Shirley Boys High School we strive to provide an educational environment for young men of Pasifika heritage, which is integrated into the core philosophies of Shirley.

As our school, including the staff, parent and student community , journey together towards the construction of a new school, built for 21st Century New Zealanders, it is vital that we improve our practices to suit people of a diverse background.

We have three goals with regards to Pasifika learners at SBHS

• Increase the academic achievement of Pasifika Learners by supporting both staff, in their teaching practice, and students, in their learning.

• Advance meaningful connections between the school and Pasifika families and communities.

• Improve the social engagement of Pasifika learners, both in and beyond the school, for example, through leadership and citizenship.

Over the last couple of years, we have developed a Maori and Pasifika Development team, with several staff having responsibility for this important area of the school.

To work alongside the staff and the board, we also have established a Shirley Boys’ Whanau Committee.
