Update from Mr Sim
Kia ora koutou,
Welcome back to a slightly shorter week following our Labour Day weekend. Hopefully everyone had some quality family time and made the most of the good weather over the weekend.
Thank you to those families who have let us know their 2023 placement requests. We are working through these at the moment. We start this process early so we have plenty of time to consider the best placement for every child. As our spaces are collaborative learning spaces children will be working with different teachers within their space throughout the day. Hopefully in our newsletter in two weeks time I will be able to finalise our staffing for the 2023 school year.
As this is a summer term children are required to wear wide brimmed navy hats while they are outside. Caps are not an acceptable option for everyday sun protection because they only protect your scalp and forehead and fail to protect your ears and neck. Children not wearing an appropriate hat will need to sit in the shade in a designated area outside Akeake or Tī Kōuka.
Our Year 5/6 children are currently on camp at the Waipara Adventure Centre until Friday afternoon. I am heading out there tomorrow to visit and I am looking forward to seeing all the children engaged in some really fun activities. I am sure everyone will be having a wonderful time and hopefully the weather continues to “play ball” as well. Thank you to all the parents who have been able to come along as parent help over the four days, we could not do it without you.
An early notification that staff will be attending a paid union meeting on Thursday November 24th. All primary and area school teachers who are members of the primary teachers union (NZEI) are entitled to attend these meetings.A formal letter will be coming out next week informing you of this. While the school will not officially be closed, to enable staff to attend this meeting we do request parents help us by making arrangements to collect their children at 1pm to allow time for the staff to make their way to the venue.
We are not having an assembly this week but next week will be our mihi whakatau to welcome new children and their whanau to our school community.
Please continue to monitor your email and @school app for any important messages which may be coming out. If you need any help accessing this please contact the office to get your login details. Please also make sure that we have up to date contact details for you should we need to make contact.
Ngā mihi nui Alistair Sim (Principal / Tumuaki)
