Pastoral Care

Jo Meyrick —

Pastoral care is a provision schools make to ensure the physical and emotional welfare of their pupils.

Why is Pastoral Care at School Important?

There's one thing that all parents want for their kids, and that's for them to be happy. So, how do we ensure children are happy at school? High quality pastoral care at school is the answer. With education and health being so closely linked, it's been proven that students with good physical and mental health perform better at school and will achieve more academically.

If you require extra support in this area, please talk with your child's class teacher first and the teacher will get one of the Pastoral Care team to make contact with you. Please check that we have your correct phone number or email on file.

Agencies we can access fairly swiftly are:

Mana Ake

Public Health Nurse

Social Worker in Schools

Kiwi Can

Kiwi Can is the first step of a journey that takes young people through Graeme Dingle Foundation programmes at different stages in their schooling. It sets a foundation of values and life skills that the students take with them through school and into later life. Our Year 2-6 students visit a Kiwi Can class once a week to enjoy a positive, uplifting environment that encourages self belief and confidence. This year our facilitators are Callum and Lily.

Term 1 has a big focus on positive relationships. This is an important skill to develop in many contexts of life. Here is an example of two of the lessons the students' have had this term.
