Message from Mrs Meyrick - Deputy Principal

Jo Meyrick —

I shared this quote in our celebration assembly last Friday. It reinforces the importance to try new things. This way we are more likely to find our strengths and talents.

There are many mixed emotions that come to the surface when we place ourselves in new situations. But the growth and reassurance that can come from it, can encourage all people to keep moving forward. I encourage you and your whānau to try something new. Try a whānau challenge, try a new walk, try a new food. The planning of and getting the activity done can be hard work, but the wellbeing benefits far outweigh the choice of doing the same things over and over.

Term 3 is full of new and exciting opportunities. This afternoon Claire McKenzie, our Literacy Lead and a small team of teachers are offering a Parent Reading Workshop in the staffroom from 2.15pm to 3.00pm. This is to share ideas on how to make reading fun at home.

Do you have difficulty coaching your child to remain calm when things go wrong? Then the Tuning In To Kids programme run by Mana Ake facilitators would be a great programme to attend. Please see the details in the poster attached.

Enjoy reading this awesome article about our partnership with Kia Kori Waitaha Programme and Shirley Intermediate School. We have been extremely lucky to have these wonderful sportspeople support our lunchtime plays for the first 5 weeks of Term 2 and we have them back for the first 5 weeks of Term 3.

Lastly, the House Leaders and I are planning a mufti day for Friday the 13th of August to support an organisation called STAR JAM. StarJam is an organisation that supports young kiwi kids with disabilities to unleash their potential through the magic of music, dance and performance. Our students will be taking part in a JUMP JAM session on this day. In return for a small donation, each child will receive a wristband.

Lastly a question for you to ponder.

What happens if I slow down? What happens if I speed up?
