Update from the Board of Trustees

Trineka Newton —

Important thank-yous and a summary of our last board meeting.

Kia ora koutou,

Voting is over in the board election, and we will know the result later this week once postal votes have been counted. I'd like to give a very big thank you to our current trustees for their service to the community over the last three or more years.

Peter, Maree and Alice were elected in 2015, not long after the school opened; Shayne joined the board in 2016; and Sally started on the establishment board in 2013.

These trustees accepted the huge responsibility of stewarding the school through its first years. They've contributed many hours and considerable brain power to the opportunities and challenges we've faced as the school implemented curriculum, policy and strategy for the first time, while managing ongoing building projects and roll growth.

Their focus on growing a great culture has created a strong foundation for the new board, who will take the school through its next phase - building on and shaping that foundation.

Thank you also to our board secretary, Trin Newton, and the leadership team who've worked closely with us, including Evelyn who joined us this term in her role as Principal.

Finally, I'd like to thank all the parents who put their name forward for voting. We appreciate your commitment to the school.

June's board meeting

Our last board meeting was on 26 June. It was great to see a few parents attending, and we encourage you to come along. You can now find the dates and minutes of meetings on the school website. Meeting dates have also been added to the calendar in the school app.

At the board meeting we approved the annual report for 2018 and a revised concerns and complaints procedure (which will come into effect at the beginning of term 3 - we'll email more detail then). Trustees discussed the important role of camps in the school curriculum and the cost of camps for families and the school.

We also talked about induction activities for new trustees and an update to leave without pay policy. We appointed a contractor to prepare a 10-year maintenance plan for school property. Trustees were briefed on the school's philosophy and approach to coaching student behaviour.

The next board meeting is Wednesday 7 August at 6.30pm.

Ma whero ma pango ka oti ai te mahi - With red and black the work will be complete. (If everyone does their part, the work will be complete. The colours refer to the traditional kowhaiwhai patterns on the inside of the meeting houses.)

Noho ora mai,

Sarah Jones

Chair, Board of Trustees
