Arriving at School…

Ben Witheford —

We’ve noticed an increasing number of children arriving at school quite early, i.e. before 8am.

We’ve noticed an increasing number of children arriving at school quite early, i.e. before 8am. I am thinking this is in large part due to many parents wanting to beat the traffic and not be late to work in Queenstown. However, ideally children shouldn’t be arriving at school until 8.30am.  I appreciate the need to manage the morning routines around our traffic issues but please try and keep to the 8.30am arrival time.  We as a school will take reasonable care with any child on site, however please note none of the team are in a position to supervise children before 8.30am.

Just to balance the whole timing matter… I’ve noticed there are too many children arriving after the school bell. “How late is too late”? you might ask. Children need to be arriving at school in time to unpack bags and get themselves ready for learning.

Therefore as the formal school day begins at 8.55am, most children would need to be entering the grounds by 8.45am at the latest. Why am I being picky? Arriving on time sets children up better for learning, it does not impact on the habitat programme as it does when they’re late and it is also an excellent habit to form for life. If your child arrives after the roll is taken, they will be asked to pop over to the office and let us know they are now present.
