Wakatipu Swimming Sports 2021

Anna Browne —

Wakatipu Zone swimming were held on Tuesday 22nd June and went really well. It was a very busy day with a large number of Wakatipu students coming together to compete in the pool.

We had 36 students representing Shotover in a range of swimming events. Thank you to family members and friends that came along and supported, there was certainly lots of cheering from the crowds.

All our Shotover swimmers did well, it was great to have so many there. Here is an overall summary of the Wakatipu students who were in the top placings: top 6 for freestyle and backstroke & top 4 for breaststroke and butterfly - Congratulations!

These students have all qualified for the Central Otago Swimming Championships. They will be held this Thursday, 9th July, in Wanaka.

A special mention also to Audrey Austin who competed in the Open Championship swimming 50 metres of each stroke and also the individual medley. She competed against mainly Swimming Club swimmers and did remarkably well.

Thank you to all the relay teams, such fun and competitive events. Top 2 placings go through to Central Otago Champs, unfortunately no Shotover teams featured but did incredibly well.

Thanks also to the wonderful parent helpers who helped out at our swimming sports events.

Good luck to our swimmers travelling to Wanaka on Thursday for the Central Otago Swimming Champs.
