Year 1&2 Future Ferns Netball coaching
Over the last 5 weeks our upcoming netball players participated in the New Zealand Netball Future Ferns programme during their lunch break.
Nearly 60 of our Year 1&2 Shotover student were coached by parent coaches through the skills and drills of netball.
Boys and girls trained with 10 of our Year 7 netball players supporting the parents. It was great seeing the progress they made through the weeks with each session starting with a specifically designed warm up followed by fun games incorporating drills to encourage catching, passing and other netball skills. The sessions ended with mini games to put their skills into practice.
Thank you to the mums and dads that came along for the coaches session and each following week or when they could, to help run the training programme.
The Year 7 netball players were fantastic, providing an extra set of hands, supporting the young players and engaging them in the game they also love playing.
The Year 2's will get the chance next year to join a Shotover netball team in the Year 3 grade of Wakatipu Netball Centre competition.
Keep encouraging your child to continue practising at home. It was awesome seeing so many boys join the programme this year. They too can play netball in the Wakatipu Netball competition, some of the other Wakatipu schools this year had a large number of boys playing in teams.
