Sports Wrap Up Term 1, 2025
I have to start by saying how proud I am of our Shotover students. It has been a busy term sport wise and the children have kept on giving it their all out there across all sporting disciplines.
We kicked off with Touch Rugby and a huge thank you has to go our coaches, giving up their time, showing up early on Mondays and supporting our students through the season. It was a great turnout with 150 Shotover students participating.
We had two sunny days for our Shotover Athletics days. The biggest standout for me was the support shown to their peers throughout the day, especially on the big runs around the field. These days wouldn't be possible without parent help and our amazing mentors running the show. So thank you to all of you.
From our senior athletics days our top qualifiers then went on to the Wakatipu and Central Otago Athletics, a week apart, so a full on few weeks! Final results from COPSSA can be found here.
In amongst this we had 12 students head to Alexandra to take part in the Inter-schools Top Bike Competition where they raced and tested their skills against other schools from the Central Otago area.
Lastly, Netball season has arrived! We have 17 Netball teams this year with the majority of these already kicking off the season at the 7 Aside Tournament last weekend in Alexandra. Our teams all did very well and had the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the Southern Steel players.
Our SPS Team Topaz won the Yr 3/4 competition and SPS Sapphires won the Yr 7/8 grade. Big congratulations to both of these teams and their coaches, what a great start to the season.
Enjoy the break everyone,
Rosie
