A word from the principal...
Kia Ora
The first camp of Year 7 and 8's arrived back safely yesterday and the second camp left and have reported in. They arrived safely and are now enjoying the stunning environment that is Deep Cove and Doubtful Sound. Unlike back in the day when I first took a class in and mountain radio was the only form of communication to the outside world, we now get almost daily photo updates from the camps. So keep an eye on our Facebook page for these.
Getting to the point where a camp leaves is usually about 80% of the effort. Organising and making a school camp happen involves many people working hard to ensure each and every base is covered. My thanks to Brendon, Erica, Zac, Liv, Stu and Karyn for the effort they have put into this year's Deep Cove experiences for our Year 7 & 8 children.
Unless you have been hiding from the world and not been outside in recent days, you may have noticed that the long summer/autumn has finally ended and winter has arrived. Given our location in an alpine environment there is a chance that normal school operations can be impacted the weather. Please take five minutes to read this article which outlines how we will respond to adverse weather. In short we will make decisions in the best interests of child and staff safety. Secondly, we will work hard to communicate quickly about any action we are taking.
On the COVID front, you may have seen an announcement from the COVID Minister yesterday which said we would be staying at Orange until the next review in late June. This means no change to what is happening at Shotover and in practice, the protocols we had in place and published back on the 3rd of May still stand. We continue to update our chart of COVID and Isolation cases connected to Shotover here on our website.
Enjoy the weekend, don’t forget we have two long weekends this term, Queen's Birthday (Monday, 6 June) and Matariki (Friday, 24 June).
