There is no doubt that the last term break is now well and truly behind us. Wandering through the Habitats, there is a noticeable buzz as our learning around the concept of patterns is coming to the sharp end. The children’s learning is going to be presented in artistic form at our very own art exhibition. You can find more details further on in the newsletter, in the mean time save the date and time: Wednesday 6th June, 5pm to 8pm. For those of you unable to make it, we will be recording the evening's happenings and will post that in the days following. This is yet another element of our communicating learning processes.
Speaking of which, 'communicating learning' is the title we have for what most schools would call 'reporting to parents'. We believe that learning and talking about learning should be an ongoing process involving the mentors, whānau and the person doing the learning - your child. On our website, you can find an outline of what will happen during the course of the year.
We are trying to avoid talking about your child’s learning being an event. In other words, learning is occurring each and every day, sometimes in highly significant ways and sometimes in small ways. Our goal is to capture those moments and communicate them with you in a timely fashion. To that end if you wish to meet with a mentor then please feel free to flick them an email and set up an appointment for a mutually convenient time. The team do have a number of plates they are spinning at any given time, so please understand that some notice will be required, in other words, unless urgent, it is not likely to happen within the same week.
If you have any concerns about the process or your child’s learning after speaking to the mentor, then please contact the habitat teaming leader in the first instance. A full 2018 staff list can be found here to identify who that person is. Keep warm.
