Kia Ora
This is your last SPS missive for term 1. Tomorrow, Thursday being the last day of term.
Thank you #1…
If you’ve been down to the school in the last few weeks you’ll be aware that stage 2 of the playground has been completed. There was the larger structure that was completed by the ‘playground people’ and then the smaller structures that were completed by a handful of parents over a couple of weekends. A huge thank you Carl Livingston from Ironwood from whom we purchased the timber from. Carl saved us significant money on other quoted prices. We thank him for his support. The support of Andrew Colby, Mark Nickolls, Shayne Galloway and Anna Browne in the construction and layout of the the lower stage 2 structures has been invaluable. Now we await the delivery of stage 3 (details here). This is expected to be constructed over the term 2 break and be available for use by the kids in July 2017.
Thank you #2…
At the FoS (Friends of School) meeting last week the group of parents agreed to purchase at the schools request orienteering equipment and a gazebo. The orienteering gear will give us the equipment we need to teach orienteering skills within our immediate site and also at other local locations. This is quite exciting as it can and will capture the involvement of all ages. The gazebo will be a great branded tool the school and FoS can use at various sporting, cultural and fundraising events. In addition they are seeking grants to purchase tracksuits for the school too. Thanks FoS.
I was shocked to hear of John Clarke’s passing this week. The world can always do with a world class satirist, and that he definitely was. You can spend quite a bit of time on you tube watching John Clarke, aka Fred Dagg…as I did the other night. My recommendation would be his sketch called, The Front Fell Off. A brilliantly written and brilliantly executed piece of satire.
I hope and trust you have an enjoyable break with your family and friends. We’ll all see you back and ready to go on Monday 1st May.

Reminder: May the 4th or May the force…
We have had some wonderings and communications from children and parents asking if we will be recognising May the Fourth as in May the Force be With You. The short answer is yes. So on May the 4th children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite Star Wars character.
