Predators in Aotearoa

Priscilla Thatcher —

The senior school was extremely lucky to have Dr Carolyn King come and talk to us on Tuesday. Carolyn knows everything there is to know about predators in Aotearoa and shared that with us.

She brought in a range of traps for us to see, including the A24 that can kill 24 pests before it needs resetting. We also saw ink tracking, the prints from these, decoy eggs and other ways of tracking what pest, is where! The taxidermy rat and ferret were particularly interesting to see. We look forward to applying this knowledge so that we too can help the birds in our mangaonui gully thrive!
