Pests in our Environment

Brent Taylor —

As part of our projects this term we have been learning about space, followed by how Earth can sustain life. Through this we have learnt that there are many pests in our country that are creating considerable damage.

This is mainly to our native bird populations and our native trees. We wanted to make a positive difference to our environment, so one way that we realised we can help is by setting traps to capture pests. On Friday we started making Pest Tunnels for our traps to fit inside. This way no native animals, children or pets will accidentally get caught in our set traps. We plan to set some around our school in safe locations and to donate the rest back to our local Mangaonua Gully Project. We hope this will help reduce the pests on our local whenua.
