Stand up and be Heard

Brent Taylor —

Senior School students harness the power of speech to entertain, persuade or inform their audience.

This year's speech finals was a close contest with many exciting and entertaining speeches.

First place for Year 6s was Rowan with her speech on 'How parents control kids', Second place was Lucy Hill with her speech on 'Speech writing' and third place was a draw with Connie and her speech about how 'Humans are the worst' and Anish with his speech about 'Black Holes'.

In the Year 5 section Tahana won first place with an entertaining speech about 'Cats', second place went to Jacob with a clever speech about 'Inventions' and third place was a draw and went to Jenny with a speech about 'Her awesome self' and Olive with her speech on 'Why she should have a pet dog'.

After some serious thinking from the two wonderful judges Mrs Wisely and Brooke Neilson, it was decided that Tahana would be this year's overall winner.

Huge congratulations must go to all senior students who took up the challenge, conquered their fears and presented their speeches in front of their classes.

We also have another section for our English Language Learners where Yuvvan was rewarded first place with his speech on 'Respect'. Sreenidhi whose speech was on 'The Human Body'  and Sahansa  whose speech was titled 'Paranormal Activity' could not be separated for second place. Ayu won third place with her speech itled 'If I had Three Wishes'. Wesley was also highly commended for his speech titled 'If I was a Teacher'.

We would also like to thank Sheana Goudie and Kathy Dobbie for giving up their time to come and judge the ELL speeches.
