Erosion Control Works Planned for Mangaonua Gully, December 2022 to June 2023
As part of Hamilton City Council's erosion control programme, they are looking to do some work in the Mangaonua Gully between Chelmsford Reserve and Silverdale Road starting in early December.
They will be building gravel tracks alongside the stream which are designed for construction access and ongoing gully maintenance, but they will be open to the public year-round for the local community to enjoy when the works are complete. They will be working, with local iwi, Ngāti Hāua, to plant native vegetation along the stream banks and they will also be adding logs and rocks to the stream to slow down the current, which will help with to reduce erosion along its banks.
