Kids On Bikes

Brent Taylor —

Wow!! What a week of progress through risk taking and hard mahi.

It was so exciting to Cameron Ward, the School Travel Co-ordinator for the Hamilton City Council, come into school and teach our tamariki. He challenged the children and teachers through various fun activities that grew confidence and abilities in all riders.

Children learnt skills important for when riding on the road such as signalling for turning or stopping, how to emergency brake safely and how to check over our shoulders without serving from our direct line. Cameron then challenged us improve our control through slow and fast drills, sharp turns, turning with only one hand, high fiving other riders with our hand and feet and seeing who can do the longest skid.

However the most exciting day was on Thursday when he arrived with a bike seesaw and various jumps. This challenged us to stand up when riding and to move our balance depending on the situation.
