Teacher Only Day: Developing our partnership with Ngati Haua

Alana Curry —

It was inspiring to begin our journey with Ngati Haua listening to the ancient histories and learning about the journey of significant leaders in revitalising Maori language and culture.

On Friday, 18th of June, we used our Teacher Only Day to work with our Kāhui Ako - the Hillcrest Community of Learning. We were extremely fortunate to be hosted by Ngāti Hauā who shared some of their significant historical stories and their aspirations for the future. We were all very excited to have the chance to develop our relationship with the mana whenua of our school.

We appreciated the day to engage and make connections between our educational aspirations for all of our tamariki and the vision and strategic framework of Ngāti Hauā. We were invited to remember that while our children are the future we are currently designing their future and we need to continually evaluate the education they are receiving.

This Teacher Only Day was an incredible opportunity to join with our kahui ako schools in a forum where we could develop a shared understanding on this area of our curriculum and be able to really focus together for the whole day.
