Eid Mubarak!

Michael Harrop —

We at Silverdale Normal School would like to extend our heartiest greetings to all our whānau who will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr later this week.

Eid-ul-Fitr is a time of celebration after Muslims have accomplished one of the most important religious duties - fasting during the month of Ramadan. Fasting in Ramadan means that healthy adults do not eat or drink anything from sunrise to sunset. Muslims believe fasting purifies their body and soul, it encourages empathy towards the underprivileged, helps them practice self-discipline, self-control and strengthen their spiritual bond with the almighty.

Eid is celebrated with a special prayer at the mosque, greetings of Eid Mubarak and a friendly hug, delicious desserts, a feast with family, friends and colleagues, gifts for young children and charity.

Eid Mubarak ! (Have a blessed festival).
