Board Matters

Priscilla Thatcher —

Kia ora e te whānau,

Somehow, it is already term 3!

The first phase of our ERO (Educational Review Office) Te Ara Huarau evaluation is complete.

Our school leadership enjoyed working with ERO and having an opportunity to show all the amazing ways we support our diverse group of learners. We felt that ERO understands our context and acknowledged the ways we continue to build a school culture and curriculum that responds well to our learners and community. We are feeling positive about continuing to work with our Evaluation Partner over the coming years.

We are really pleased that our evaluation partner recognised and celebrated our strong leadership team and inclusive culture, the support the school provides to meet the individual needs of diverse students, and the positive relationships staff have with parents and whānau. You can view our initial reports on our website.   Public reports are also published on ERO’s website.

The Profile Report reflects our strategic goals and a shared evaluation focus as we work together to improve outcomes for all our learners. Future reporting will show our progress and achievement towards meeting our goals. The Board Assurance Report shows how we are meeting regulatory and legislative requirements. We also have a report regarding our Provision for International Students.

Our strategic priorities for improving outcomes for learners are:

• to ensure that all students are successful and develop their potential

• to build a strong school culture of community, belonging and partnership

• to implement a rich, responsive, authentic localised curriculum.

Moving forward, the school will prioritise:

• extending the analysis of student achievement data to support evidence-based evaluation and further inform targeted action for continuous improvement

• continuing to strengthen collective capability to address the needs of all learners and enable accelerated learning outcomes, with a specific focus in writing

• further engaging with parents, whānau and the community to support student learning and implement effective strategies to increase rates of attendance.

We are looking forward to consulting and collaborating with our fabulous Silverdale community about our next steps towards equity and excellence later this year.

Noho ora mai, stay well,

Kathryn Duggan
