Classroom Item - Room 14
Throughout Term 1 Room 14 has been exploring the different communities that we belong to and how we can make a positive difference. This started with setting up our classroom expectations, followed by some statistical research to help with the School Disco. One example was using mathematical thinking skills to gather data on favourite kai for the school Disco. Our students collected the data of tally graphs then created bar graphs to clearly display their data. From this they were able to advise the PTG that dumplings would be a great food option. These were a success on the night selling out.
Our next project is to make a positive difference to our community by restoring our vegetable garden. We have set up some scientific investigations to test the optimum growing conditions for seeds based on questions we had in class.
How does a plant grow from a seed?
Do seeds need water to grow?
Do seeds need soil to grow?
Is our soil in our garden good for growing?
Can plants grow in sand?
So watch this space as we begin to dig deeper into growing plants and get a little bit dirty as we aim to restore our school garden for our community.
