Year 5 and 6 students have been learning all about space and how Māori use the moon and stars to guide them.

As part of our learning we have looked at how Māori were and are amazing scientists; and how they used the stars, planets and moon to navigate and to inform them on the best times for harvesting and hunting for food. This followed on from the learning we had gained through our visit to Kirikiriroa Marae. The students explored their own questions about space and then created presentations to teach other students. Some created their own myths, models, songs or science videos to explain key ideas.
