Storylines - Student Report
Storylines inspires young New Zealanders and their whānau to enjoy the magic of reading books created for them by New Zealand writers and illustrators.
At Silverdale Normal School the senior school had the pleasure of meeting the one and only Graci Kim. Graci Kim is an author who has had a lot of struggles in her life, for example when Graci first came to New Zealand in about 1990, she was the only Korean kid at her school. Because of this, she got bullied because she was different and super shy.
She overcame her lack of confidence by doing the things she was most afraid of like heights - by skydiving, singing in front of an audience, she was afraid of the water so learnt to swim and even taught swimming.
Graci’s stories are about kids who have struggles, like what Graci had, as well as Korean mythology.
