Māori Art Class

Priscilla Thatcher —

The Māori Art Group who meet on a Tuesday after school, experimented recently with tin foil to create sculptures of people and animals and set them up in a scene.

Foil had to be cut a specific way to get maximum results.  Children were surprised when they discovered the figures could be made to stand by adjusting bodies and limbs to the best positions.

Foil is an interesting medium to work with, as it bends, squashes or moves easily.  It also tears and becomes unusable very quickly.  Care and concentration is required.
