Water Education Model

Priscilla Thatcher —

The Hamilton City Council in conjunction with “The House of Science” have created a Water Education Model. This model was designed to teach the children about the significance of the Waikato awa (river).

It contains five interactive stations that help to demonstrate to the learners where our water comes from and the different processes it goes through after we use it.

The model is also designed to develop an understanding of the many culturally significant sites along the river.

We were very lucky to have the opportunity to trial the model in the junior school for a day. The learners loved the hands-on activities and learning that they experienced. The water model will be an important resource for our inquiry next term and we are all looking forward to having it back at school in week two of next term.
