Hamilton Schools Gymsport Festival

Priscilla Thatcher —

This term a group of learners have been developing their gymnastics skills with the help from some Hamilton City Gymnastics Club Coaches. They have been learning specific routines on the balance beam, springboard and floor.

On Thursday, 22nd June the Silverdale Normal School Gymnastics group took part in the Hamilton Schools Gymsport Festival where they were able to compete against other schools from around Hamilton and show the amazing skills they have spent this term learning.

Our team represented the school with pride and showed an immense amount of sportsmanship, by not only supporting and encouraging their own teammates, but those from other schools too.  Each team member participated wonderfully and gave it their all.

A special mention to Arie Baigent who competed and won first position in the year 5-6 girls competition, as well as a special mention to the rest of the team for making Silverdale Normal School so proud by all the hard work and dedication they put into the competition.

Class Item - Room 17

Last Thursday, 22nd June, thirteen tamariki from Silverdale Normal School competed in gymnastics at Hamilton City Gymnastics. These children had been practising at school during their Friday lunch times for the last eight weeks.

We did a routine on every rotation such as beam, floor and vault. The juniors went first and did beam, vault and then floor. All of the juniors gathered together to do the warm up dance together. After, they did some stretches, then did their march and all of them went to their first rotation. At the end all of them gathered so the coaches could announce the certificate winners.

The next session was the year 6, 7 and 8 - we did vault, beam and then floor. We got all kinds of different scores based on our overall points earned. Arie managed to score the most points and was placed first over all  - Woohoo!!!

We even got to watch some year 7 and 8s doing professional trampoline jumps on the trampolines.
