Internet safety

Michael Harrop —

Does your child have a computer or device?... Do you know what your child is doing on their device at home?...

Take care of our children
Take care of what they hear
Take care of what they see
Take care of what they feel
For how the children grow
So will be the shape of Aotearoa
- Dame Whina Cooper

Do you know what apps your child is using?

Do you know the videos they're being exposed to?

Do you know if they have social media accounts?

Are they using instant video messaging services?

Devices and the internet have opened up so many rich and powerful learning opportunities - and we want our children to learn how to use these tools effectively and responsibly, let's face it - it is their future! Are you able to answer the questions above about your child's activity online?

You may be aware that at the moment, there is some harmful content doing rounds in cyber space - been publicised in the media. The content is being distributed through several social media platforms such as Tik Tok and  Facebook. Can I please encourage you to have an open conversation with your children about internet safety and how to avoid being exposed to any inappropriate content.

A great place to start and find resources in supporting your children to stay safe in the online world, is to visit the  website below:

Here you will find loads of advice on how to support your children and ways to have conversations and start discussions.

Also, feel free to contact your child's teacher if you have any concerns or questions - we love to work with our families to keep our learners feeling safe and happy.
