Successful Sleep Tips

Brent Taylor —

Cat Macpherson, a clinical physiologist, visited our senior team on Tuesday to teach us about how sleep affects our hauora (wellbeing).

This Term our senior school is learning all about how we keep our teenage tinana (bodies) healthy. We have zoomed in on our digestive system and why we make food choices. As part of our journey we have been seeking experts to come and teach us about other factors that affect our wellbeing.

Some key learning today was that sleep affects all aspects of our health and that 6 out of 10 children do not get enough sleep. We also learnt that we have different stages of sleep and that by having a good routine we have set ourselves up for a successful night's sleep. Finally Cat had some cool tips for dealing with nightmares, like turning them into happy endings, sharing them with an adult, or drawing the monsters wearing funny clothes.
