Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week): 11th to 15th September
Kia ora e te whānau o Silverdale!! This week has been an absolute BLAST as we have celebrated te wiki o te reo Māori!
We have celebrated and used this incredible language that is only spoken in this land - Aotearoa. The challenge for us, and for you, is always to just give it a go.
Kids at Silverdale have all demonstrated our value of ako by teaching and learning te reo Māori in heaps of different ways.
Here's a few:
- A te reo māori scavenger hunt around the kura - finding and translating different foods in te reo māori- Playing 'Hī Ika' or 'Go Fish' in te reo māori- Playing hand games using te reo māori- Playing Ki-o-Rahi- Learning to say the longest place name: "Taumata whakatangi hangakoauau o tamatea turi pukakapiki maunga horo nuku pokai whenua kitanatahu".- Planting kowhai seeds using only te reo māori- Using te reo māori in our writing- Singing waiata - Making paraoa parai/fried bread - Watching an incredible kapa haka performance...And more!
Well done to all our kaiako and tamariki for yet again taking up the challenge and making a positive difference!
