On Wednesday the 10th of May Silverdale Normal School took a team to Southwell School to compete in the annual Lit Quiz. Together with 50 other primary and intermediate schools from all around the region, they put their knowledge of literature to the test.

The teams battled through ten rounds of questions, which tested their knowledge on a wide range of literature which spanned from Fairy tales, to Tolkein, to Harry Potter, to Greek mythology.  Our teams stayed cool, calm and collected under pressure. Parents were also put to the test, with Mrs Tuck winning $10 for her epic knowledge of Candy Crush. Us adults quietly did the quiz from the sidelines, with Kathryn Duggan leaving us all in her dust. It was wonderful to see our students' pride and excitement when they got questions correct.

Our Lit Quiz teams worked very hard leading up to this event, meeting every Monday in Term 1 to prepare. It was a joy hearing them discuss their new reads and recommending books to each other. It is very evident that these students have developed a life-long love of reading.

For any Year 5 students wishing to participate in the Lit Quiz next year, we will run trials early 2024. Until then, I encourage them to continue to read widely and regularly. If your child ever needs help choosing new books to read, Miss Goudie is full of great ideas and always there to help.
