Safer streets around our schools

Michael Harrop —

From 29 April 2024 (the start of the second school term) Hamilton City Council propose to reduce speed limits to 30km/h across Hamilton’s 59 primary, intermediate, and high schools.

This proposed change is guided by the Land Transport Rule – Setting the Speed Limits 2022. You can read more about it online, click here.

The internationally accepted speed limit to greatly reduce the chances of a pedestrian being killed or seriously injured by a moving car is 30km/h.

Please see the map provided which outlines the area in your neighbourhood where the HCC propose to reduce speed limits.

Our community knows our school neighbourhood best and they would like to know if you support these changes and if you think the proposed speed limit reduction locations around schools are correct.

You can have your say by adding your thoughts here or by collecting a hardcopy form from any Library or the HCC Municipal building on Angeles Street.

Have your say BEFORE 3 October 2023.
