A Message from the Board

Priscilla Thatcher —

After easing into Term 2 with a short week it is wonderful to see tamariki and kaiako charging ahead into new learning opportunities.

The Board would like to acknowledge the ongoing negotiations between NZEI Te Riu Roa (the education sector union) and the Government. We know the uncertainty of this has an impact on families and would like to express our sincere thanks for all the support from our community.

As a Board, we are 100% behind our teachers and Principal. We know that we have amazing teachers, an incredible senior leadership team and an outstanding Principal here at Silverdale. We want them to know that we value their wellbeing and would love to see them paid at a rate that reflects their significant skill and workload. Even more, to have optimum classroom conditions for our tamariki and an education system that we can be proud of. We know that when our children are supported to learn and succeed, whaanau and communities will thrive.

There are a few other things happening at a governance level that you will start to hear more about as the year progresses. These include the early stages of our regular ERO (Education Review Office) review and consulting on our strategic plan and vision.

Noho ora mai – stay well e te whaanau!
