Middle School Sensory Support day.

Janice Muir —

The Middle School has been exploring emotions through the Zones of Regulation programme. We have looked at emotions and the colour zones that they fit into. We have also explored strategies to help us when we aren't in the green zone.

Last week on Wednesday 5th of August from 10 - 11 am the Middle School had a go at a variety of sensory activities. The idea was to see which activities they enjoyed the most, and which activities helped them feel calm and relaxed. There was a buzz of activity as children played with play dough, oobleck, stress balls, soapy water, wrapped up in blankets, hugged weighted soft toys, listened to relaxing music, were read stories, swung on the monkey bars, ran, threw things, watched hour glasses and rainmakers and so much more. This unit has been so valuable and we have had positive feedback on how the children have been discussing and having a go at new things at home.
