Aroha - Words have power!

Ben Gorman —

One of the greatest lies of my childhood was being told that "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me". It's a lie! Words can hurt!

Words have amazing power!

In the book of Genesis God said "Let there be light" - and there was! Have you ever thought about that? God's words brought the world into existence.

I particularly love how this is imagined in the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. In this allegory, it is Aslan's song that brings Narnia into existence.

“This world is bursting with life for these few days because the song with which I called it into life still hangs in the air and rumbles in the ground." - The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis

We are made in the image and likeness of God. This means that our words have the power to give life, and they have the power to take it away! Do your children understand the power of their words? At a meal over the next week - take the opportunity to have a discussion about the power of words.
