Introducing the 2020 Teaching Team

Ben Gorman —

We have assembled a fantastic teaching team for 2020. There are a lot of talented teachers, with a few changing roles.

Over the last month, there has been a lot of background work in establishing the teaching team for 2020. The first big announcement is the semi-retirement of Faye Marriott. Faye has been teaching fulltime at St Joseph’s for 30 years. The great news is that we have been able to retain her as a part-time teacher.

Leigh Cunningham has been appointed to Faye’s old job. Meaning she will be “Leader of Learning (AP) - Junior School”. Leigh will be teaching Y2-3 in Kakapo in 2020.

Replacing Faye as a teacher will be Krystal McLaughlin. Krystal will be teaching Year 1-2 out of Kea. Krystal has been the junior teacher aide in 2019, however, she had previously trained as a teacher. Krystal is an enthusiastic and dedicated educator who is an asset to St Joseph's.

Jacinta Nicholls has been an amazing addition to the teaching team this year. For family reasons, she did not seek fulltime employment for 2020. We are excited to have her staying on as a part-time teacher in the junior school.

Jackie Stafford will be moving down to teach the new entrants in 2020 from Korora.

Christine Callingham will remain in Ruru teaching Year 4-5. On Fridays, Faye Marriott will teach in Ruru.

Pamela Gallagher will teach Year 5-6 in Piwakawaka. Pamela has also taken over the role of DRS vacated by Leigh. On Fridays, Anita Ward will be returning to teach in Piwakawaka.

Ruru and Piwakawaka have the most students in 2020. To ensure every student has the best opportunity to succeed, an extra part-time role has been established to work with small groups of students from these two classes. Tracey Richmond will be returning to complete this role as well as providing classroom release in the two Year 7-8 classes.

Peter Richmond (Tui) and Adam Sutcliffe (Whio) will both teach Year 7-8 again in 2020.
