Highlights of Term 3 2019.
What an amazing term!
Beauty and the Beast
The musical was a great night. The school worked very hard to produce an amazing show.
Mia Grounds who played Belle said, “I think the way everyone participated and had their own role was amazing.” Altogether it was an amazing experience for the leads and the whole school. It was a night to remember. Conor Francis who played the beast tried really hard to make sure the play went smoothly. His quote was "Your talent is limitless If you try your hardest."
Kapa haka
On the 3rd of September, the senior school Kapa Haka group did a rehearsal for their performance for the Kapa Haka festival at Ohoka School. It all went very well but unfortunately it was freezing! After the performance, you were able to get a sausage and a drink or if you ordered one a hangi. It was a great opportunity!
Epro8
On the 8th of August, A group of year 8 students split into 2 teams for an engineering challenge called Epro8. It is a competition involving 12 teams of 4 from different schools. Our school had two teams, our first team was Toms Techies consisting of Harry Cournane, Millie Holland, Thomas Heffernan and Maddy Whaley. Our second team was Alex’s Army consisting of Alex Dooling, Amelie Antoniuk-Newall, Daniel Van Der Werf and Holly Sheridan. Toms Techies placed 3rd in the heats and Alex’s Army placed 2nd which brought them to the semi-finals so two weeks later on the 22nd of August, Alex’s Army battled to get to the finals. They finished tied in third and in an intense tiebreaker they fell short of the finals.
Cantamaths
If you thought Epro8 was the only competition involving numbers that’s where you would be wrong. Cantamaths was held on the 28th of August. Cantamaths is a 30-minute Mathematics problem-solving competition. There was a smaller warm-up Cantamaths that also involved the year 6’s but the real deal was the main competition held at Horncastle Arena with over 90 Teams. Our school sent two teams to Cantamaths the year 8 involved Alex Dooling, Maddy Whaley, Harry Cournane and Daniel Van Der Werf and they received 65 points while our year 7 team made up of Max Daisly, Sam Glennie, Charlotte Peterson and Rebecca O’ Mahony managed to get 45 points. Also our Year 6 team that went to the warm-up were Andy Peterson, Daniel Grounds, Arwen McColl and Imogen Whaley.
Book Week
Book week was a great opportunity to be a part of. We all got to dress up as our favourite book characters. We also had a great book shop to purchase the most amazing books. We spoke to Maddy Williams she said:” It was exciting to dress up as our favourite book characters, and we got to purchase our favourite books at a low price, it was awesome!”
Luca Fleck went to the school’s book day as Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and he put a lot of effort into his costume such as getting glasses, a hat, a wig, a coat and a cane he got it all from the 2 dollar shop. That shows that you can get a lot for a little bit of money!
