Donations, Attendance Dues and other payments

Ben Gorman —

In 2025 the way Attendance Dues are collected is changing. This article outlines the different costs associated with Education at St Josephs.

Attendance Dues

In 2025 attendance dues will be collected directly by the Diocese. Please see the letter attached below from the Diocese that outlines more details about this change. If you are currently making regular payments please continue to do so, we are working closely with our schools and parishes and will ensure that all payments are correctly recorded.

In 2025 attendance due for each child are $500+Gst p.a. along with a $60 p.a. donation to support the running of the Catholic Education Office.

Total = $158.75 per child, per term

What are attendance dues?

A proprietor may charge Attendance Dues at a maximum level approved by the Minister of Education. The payment of Attendance Dues in a Catholic Integrated School is a requirement on the condition of enrolment provided in the Integration Agreement for each school. The income from attendance dues can be used only for the costs associated with the provision of school land and buildings.

It is important to realise that Attendance Dues are the only means the diocese has of repaying all Education Loans whether they be from the Diocesan Catholic Development Fund or Religious Orders.

Attendance Dues are a charge payable to the Proprietor and a condition of enrolment at integrated schools. Dues are not a donation, and they are not tax deductible.

Catholic integrated schools are financed partly by the government and partly through Attendance Dues paid by parents/caregivers to the Proprietor.

Beyond Attendance Dues - all other expenses relating to school are collected via Kindo. We have had lots of positive feedback about Kindo - along with small minority who have struggled with the change. The key advice is that if you don't have access online eftpos or PoLi - you are best to setup automatic payments to keep your Kindo account in credit. The intro to Kindo information sheet is also attached at the bottom of this article.

Activity Donation?

We put the amount of $180 per child, per year on your school account. This is a donation - which means you can claim 33% back from IRD (or in Kindo you can set it up to be automatically claimed and re-donated back to the school). This donation allows us to ensure things like school trips, retreats, swimming lessons, visiting presenters and various activities is delivered without further charge. A portion of this donation also subsidised teacher aides in the junior school. If large numbers choose not to pay the activity donation we will have to reconsider how we gather funds for these services and opportunities.

School Camp

These could be charged as compulsory fees - with those who don't pay missing out. By keeping it a "donation" - you are able to claim back 33% from IRD and we are saving you 15% from GST.If the amount isn't paid, the school carries the liability - and this will impact upon future decisions about how we charge these will have to be reconsidered.

Stationery, Y7/8 Technology and Subscription Services

Some items of stationary and subscription services like Matific or Mathsbuddy are user-paid. Y7/8 technology fee pays for the take-home component of the learning that occurs at the Tech Centre (note - the school heavily subsidises this - we pass on less than half of the cost true cost to the parents). It is an absolute requirement that these will be paid.

NOTE - With new the Ministry of Education providing new Mathematics resources in 2025 we have not committed to a subscription service for online Mathematics at this point (We to wait and see what comes with the new resources).
