Diligence

Ben Gorman —

Our virtue for the next two weeks is diligence. This is one of the highest valued virtues or characteristics we hope to see at school! Anyone can be diligent - no matter how much they are struggling with the task at hand.

We have all come across amazingly talented people... so talented that they manage to breeze through many activities without having to try. However, unless their talents are peered with diligence, they will eventually be overtaken by those with less "natural talent."

Think of the tortoise and the hare! Natural talent (when uncoupled from diligence) leads to arrogance and complacency. Diligence, even without a natural talent or strength can lead individuals to success.

At school, nothing will frustrate a teacher more than an able student who is lazy. Diligence is the key!

Diligence means:

  • always trying your best

  • not being afraid of challenges

  • applying patience and attention to detail

  • never settling for mediocre

Let's nurture the virtue of diligence in our rangatahi.
