St Peter Chanel School in Samoa

Ben Gorman —

Next term I have the privilege of visiting St Peter Chanel School in Samoa. I am hoping to take with me some good books for their school library.

At the end of last year I won a scholarship that is fully funding a trip for me to  St Peter Chanel School in Apia in week two of next term. This is an amazing opportunity and will really help strengthen our bond with this establishing school.  In my absence Mr Richmond will be acting Principal.

This visit will give me a chance to assess first hand how we can support the school in it's development. I am hoping to identify a project that a group from within the school community (parents and students) may be able to return and complete in the future.

I am grateful to Air New Zealand who have supplied me with excess luggage for my trip to Samoa. I am hoping to take a selection of quality new or near new books that St Peter Chanel School can add to their barely resourced library collection. With this in mind there will be a collection box in the office through until Wednesday 1 May for books to donate to St Peter Chanel School.

It is important we send books that they are able to take pride in. So new or near new books are ideal. Ideal book types include:

  • Child / Youth Friendly non-fiction
  • Beginner chapter books
  • Youth fiction
  • Graphic novels
  • Picture books for early readers

If too much is donated we will package excess to be freighted over at a later date.
