Changing of the Guard
Two members of the board have resigned, and we have a new Board Chair.
At last night's meeting, we formally received two resignations.
1. Caroline Fahey has resigned as a proprietor's representative
2. Emma Frazer has resigned as a parent representative
Both of these people have brought a great deal to the school governance table. Caroline has served on the board for four years, where Emma has amassed 9 years as a board member, including the last year and a half the board chair. Their skills, enthusiasm and work ethic will be missed.
On behalf of the school, a big thank you to both of you for your 13 years of collective mahi.
At the end of last year, Pamela Gallagher also resigned as the staff representative on the Board of Trustees.
Replacements
The proprietor replaces Caroline. Matt Malone has been asked to step into this role. Matt is an active member of the parish and has been DRS at St Bede's College for many years and currently works across the Kahui Ako as an "across school leader," assisting five schools (including ours) to collaborate in areas of professional learning and strategic development.
The staff representative was confirmed last week. Adam Sutcliffe is now the staff representative on the Board.
The board is currently considering how best to replace Emma. As a parent representative, this role can either be filled by "selection" or "election". Either way, we first need to identify interested contenders and then formally begin the appropriate process.
With this in mind, if you are interested in being considered as a parent representative on the board, please talk to me or any board member. Some generic information can be found here: Board Member Info.
New Board Chair
Last night Joseph Houghton was elected chairperson of the board of trustees.
Joseph is well invested in St Joseph's. Later this year his 5th child will start at school (his oldest is in Year 7). Joseph is currently on the board as a proprietor's representative.
Other than being a father of five children, Joseph works as a teacher at Shirley Boys High School. He has developed a particular speciality in supporting culturally responsive pedagogy and is heavily involved in both bicultural and Pasifika education initiatives.
We are excited to have Joseph in this role. We will get Joseph to introduce himself in more detail in the next newsletter.
