Catholic Schools Day (Wed 29 Sept)

Peter Richmond —

We were going to join with St Patrick's Kaiapoi and have a combined Mass with activities however, due to Covid-Level 2 restrictions we are staying within our school gates and planning our own celebrations. Please read for more details below:

St Joseph's Rangiora will celebrate this day in several ways but one is having a small liturgy, this will be live-streamed on our Facebook page @ 11 am so that whānau can watch. The liturgy should run for approximate 20 - 30 minutes.

We will have a $2 sausage sizzle available and the money raised from this will go to our local Saint Vincent de Paul. There are several ways to pay for this. 1. Students can pay $2 by bringing cash into the office prior to the day. 2. Parents can pay online using the reference "sizzle". 3. Students can bring $2 on the day.

There will be a 1 sausage per student limit.

In the afternoon students have the option to change into a house coloured t-shirt and sports shoes for some fun games. Full school uniform is still required for the first half of the day.

More information about the Celebration of Catholic Schools Day is below.

On Wednesday 29th September many Catholic Schools in New Zealand will come together to continue to develop a deeper sense of connectedness to our wider te whānau whakapono throughout Aotearoa.

Catholic Schools Day is celebrated every three years to:

  • Support pride in our Catholic school and the network of Catholic schools.

  • Encourage schools to find out more about the network of Catholic schools throughout the country.

  • Have fun and enjoyment with our school whānau and if possible with other schools.

  • Help us to celebrate the taonga of Catholic Education in Aotearoa.

Our 2021 theme of Tūrangawaewae: Catholic Schools-A Place to Stand reminds us that:

  • It is through our baptism we become te whānau whakapono.

  • Our school and parish is a place where we feel connected and inspired.

  • Our school is a place to strengthen our faith and commitment to te whānau whakapono.

  • Pope Francis calls us to be companions on this journey.
