Patience

Ben Gorman —

Patience is a virtue, possess it if you can. Seldom found in women, never found in man...... or children???

How often have you implored your children to be patient? How good are we at modelling patience? Over the next two weeks, we have a particular focus on developing our patience.

Patience is often linked with the idea of waiting... however, patience isn't about the waiting. Patience is the behaviour we exhibit while we wait.

To be patient is to be contemplative. Being patient means to be at peace - and who doesn't want that? When we are patient, we are the best people we can be.

St Francis de Sales is one of the patrons of our closed church. He has this to reassure us about patience:

“Have patience with all things but first with yourself. Never confuse your mistakes with your value as a human being. You are perfectly valuable, creative, worthwhile person simply because you exist. And no amount of triumphs or tribulations can ever change that.”

Over the next few weeks - please talk to your children about patience. Provide them with an opportunity to be patient, and then praise them for showing patience. When they show attributes of impatience, unpack it... enlighten them on that the fruits of patience are sweet - and well worth the pain.
