Teacher Release and Relievers

Ben Gorman —

A bit of information about teacher release and relievers.

There are many reasons the main classroom teacher might be out of the classroom, including:

  • one of their scheduled release days for planning, assessment and reporting purposes
  • they are supporting a school group with a trip or event
  • attendance at important professional development courses
  • attendance at meetings to support students with higher needs
  • management release (if they have specific responsibilities in the school)

We have intentionally associated one part-time teacher with each class so, as much as possible, they are able to provide the cover for that class. This means the greatest consistency is possible for each class. These teachers have developed great relationships with the students in each class and can be approached directly by parents should there be any concerns. They work as a team with the main classroom teacher complimenting their programme. Our current part-time team is:

* Note: Faye has recently suffered a major back injury that will result in her being unavailable for an extended period of time (4+ weeks). From next week, Jan Jackson (a reliever well-known to the community) will take Fayes' timetabled classes. We keep Faye in our prayers as she undertakes a period of rehabilitation.

From time to time, we have to look further afield. We are fortunate to have a number of great relievers who really enjoy working with our ākonga. These teachers understand our routines and expectations and do a great job keeping the learning progressing in the absence of the main classroom teacher.

All our teachers (including the relievers and part-timers) work very hard to share important information to keep things as normal as possible for the students in the class.

Please be assured that we do our best to minimise disruption for your children's learning and overcome the challenges offered by classes with different teachers.
