Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

Kahukura Community of School Music Festival has come home! On Monday night we had the first Kahukura Music Festival in the Kahukura area ,enjoying Cashmere High Schools wonderful Performing Arts Centre.

It was great to watch whānau have an evening stroll to the centre to watch their tamariki perform. Perform they did!!

I'm sure you were as delighted with the evenings entertainment as we were and of course our Somerfield tamariki shone in both the choir and the Kahukura Combined Ukelele Orchestra. We were well represented in both activities! A special mention and congratulations to our soloists and chorale. Emmeline Edwards, Hazel Rutherford, Hana McIntosh, Maia McIntosh, Ann Chen and Elly McHarg.

After the performance the Kahukura principals reflected on the amount of talent we have in our area and that they are well  supported by our musical director, Ally Palmer  and dedicated staff. Thank you to our own Meagan McKinnie, ably supported by Sioned Rees.

Thank you for your support of our tamariki on Monday night at the Kahukura Music festival.

Radio Plains FM

On Monday afternoon our first group of Year 6 students became radio announcers at Plains FM as part of their leadership programme. Another group will participate next week. Some budding broadcasters in the making. Thanks to Mrs Englefield for organising.

Basketball

Basketball results are not in as we go to press.

SMART Assembly

On Friday 30 June , the last day of Term 2, there will SMART Assembly at 2p.m

Reports and Reconnecting with Whānau Interviews.

On the last day of the term you will receive your child's report via the school APP and be emailed the information you need to book a Reconnect with Whānau Interview .These are on the 24th and 25th July.

These interviews are not the only time you can meet with the classroom teachers. Throughout the year you can make an interview anytime. Contact the teacher directly and make an appointment. This way you will get the teachers undivided attention!

This is my last newsletter until the end of Term 3 as next week I leave to take up my fellowship.  This includes attending a leadership forum in Philadelphia and then onto Harvard to attend a leadership programme with principals from all over the world, followed by some travel. I leave you in the capable hands of Nicky Horne, who will be Acting Principal and Kellie Englefield.
