Huxster MTB Relay

Well done to the six Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo teams which competed at last week’s Huxster MTB Schools’ Team Relay at McLeans Island.

Our 12 mountain bikers including Angus Ensor, Guy Moore, Sam Foster, Callum Packham, Lucy Sewell, Grace Bradley, Amèlie Watson, Lusia Campbell-Ruscoe, Skyla Ekman, Niamh McWhirter, Hannah Smith, and Zee Hallam enjoyed a fun, fast-paced morning on Thursday, 20 October, racing in relay teams over a 4km course.

The event attracted 117 teams in the Year 5-6 relay with Somerfield performing strongly in the girls’ race – three teams placing in the top five. Amèlie and Lusia won the girls’ Year 5-6 relay race with Lucy and Grace claiming third and Skyla and Niamh picking up a medal in fifth place. Angus and Guy were also awarded a medal for their fifth placing in the Year 5-6 boys’ section.

A big thanks to the parents who supported the teams from the side-lines at McLeans Island.
