Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

Life has been busy this term and we are in the midst of planning for Term 4 and beyond!

Next term starts with a hiss and roar with swimming and Keeping Ourselves Safe. This is an appropriate topic anytime but currently we are getting more reports of concerning behaviour in the neighbourhood. It's important, as a family, to reinforce any messages of safety.  In reality  more harm is done to children by those who know them so although the messages about strangers are relevant so is the need to have open conversations with your child what is and isn't OK. Ring the police if you do see any suspicious behaviour.

Teachers will send home what is to be covered in the Keeping Ourselves Safe unit of work before the unit begins.

Next term we have a focus on the Arts. The Theme  is, “Celebrating Cultures Across Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo”. In Week 6 an exhibition will be held in the hall and you will be able to view the works of art on Wednesday 20 November, Thursday 21 November, and Friday  22 November from 2:30pm. More information will be sent out next term.

Best wishes to Harrison Staunton who is in the Year 6 Boy's Primary Sports Canterbury Cross Country team competing next Thursday at Hanmer Springs.

Congratulations to Sarah Price who has won a teaching position at Selwyn House, starting in 2020. Sarah has been an asset to our school as a classroom teacher and in her role as Sport Co-ordinator and will be missed! We will farewell Sarah at the end of year assembly.

Also congratulations to Karen Haines who has won a study grant in 2020 to complete her masters. We are very supportive of staff who wish to continue their studies. You will see Karen here regularly next year as the study grant allows for some teaching time.

Appointments to these positions will be announced next term.
