Message from the Tumuaki

Denise Torrey —

He mihi mahana kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to all.

After much planning and ensuring robust Health and Safety Plans we got underway with 27 children in our bubbles at Alert Level 3 yesterday.

Thanks to our whanau who made drop offs  so seamless and to our staff who have created emotionally and physically safe bubbles for our tamariki.

It was certainly different - from how we operate in a class with our own space with our bubble buddies, how we move around the space, Zooming from a new place to  playing differently without all the equipment. In other words a completely different sort of day at Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo. One of the photos is of a bubble PE lesson. Each bubble has a range of ages and any equipment is labelled. Tamariki cannot share equipment so as you can imagine kids and teachers are having to be creative!!

In the Prime Minister's briefing on Tuesday she indicated that she wouldn't make a decision about whether we move to Level 2 until 4pm on 11 May. Like many we are hoping NZers have done enough in Level 3 to allow this to happen. I will keep you updated if we get any other information. In the meantime we are currently working on our Level 2 Health and Safety Plans as well  planning our learning programmes with our fingers firmly crossed that we will have our tamariki back soon after the PM makes her announcement.

When we do return there will be a "new normal" as some of the things we used to do  will not happen or the timing of activities or events might be completely different.

Whatever happens rest assured we will continue to focus on wellbeing and learning!

Today I'd like to share with you some of the work our children have posted on their workspace platforms. Go to " Somerfield Kids Shine".

And in case you missed here they are shining in the kids version of "We're all in this Together"
